Why I Keep Running Even With Sore Knees -and what helps me stay mobile

Sunday RUNDAY

As someone who has struggled with sore knees—one of them started bothering me in my youth—I’ve always been extra cautious when it comes to movement. But here’s something interesting: both my doctor and a specialist told me the same thing—keep running.

And you know what? I agreed.

I had a strong hunch that the weight I’d gained over the years was more of a burden on my knees than running itself. After all, every pound of extra weight adds about four pounds of pressure on the knees. So I made a conscious decision to keep moving—but smarter.

Running Isn’t the Knee-Destroyer We’ve Been Told

A recent article I read confirmed what my gut—and my doctors—were telling me: running doesn’t wreck your knees. In fact, regular runners may have less arthritis and knee degeneration than non-runners.

It’s all about strengthening the muscles that support your joints, using good form, and choosing gear that works with your body, not against it.

Supportive Gear Makes a Big Difference

One of the game-changers for me? Compression leggings. I love my Light n Tight leggings because they offer:

  • True compression support that helps reduce muscle fatigue and knee stress
  • secure, stay-put fit that doesn’t slide down or bunch up on runs or walks
  • Moisture-wicking fabric that keeps me cool and comfortable

They also give me a boost of confidence—because let’s be real, they look good too.

What If Your Knees Still Ache?

Even with good gear and smart habits, knee pain still flares up sometimes. That’s why I created my free resource:

“Move More Hurt Less”

It’s a short guide with the exact stretches, tips, and tools I use to help reduce knee pain and support my mobility—whether I’m walking, strength training, or just living life.

Bottom Line? Don’t Stop Moving

I know how tempting it is to stop running—or even walking—when your knees start to ache. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this:

The key isn’t to stop. It’s to support.

Support your joints with movement, support your body with gear that’s designed to help, and support your wellness with strategies that work for you.
